Design Tours – Great for Devs

January 5, 2009

designtours

If anyone else out there is a self-proclaimed game developer, you should check this out.  Design Tours is a ongoing series created by David Rosen (creator of Lugaru) looking into the various design choices of indie games. It’s really handy for indie game designers and you’ll probably learn a thing or two.

You can check them out on his Vimeo page.

Also, news regarding my own indie projects should be up today or tomorrow.

Best Buy at the Airport

December 30, 2008

bbvmbanner

As I ran frantically through the Atlanta International Airport to try and make my connection to Gulfport, something caught my eye. I was used to seeing things like McDonald’s and Cinnabon in airports, but a Best Buy? That’s just too weird. So I went in for a closer look.

Wii Music Doesn’t Suck?

December 23, 2008

newmanband

From my limited experience playing the “game”, no, it doesn’t suck. Surprisingly enough, it’s actually a lot of fun. Obviously, it’s not a real game, and if you go into it expecting a Guitar Hero-esque challenge or something, then you’ll be sorely disappointed. Wii Music is about one thing and one thing only: having fun.

I don’t always love Shigeru Miyamoto’s games (though I do love most of them), but he has this way of making everything he touches just pure fun. The games aren’t necessarily flashy or epic in any way (especially this one), but it’s everything it needs to be and nothing more.

If you really give this game a chance and get into (and have friends or family to play with), you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun.

LBP – Land Ho!

October 26, 2008

I made my second level last night. I started playing at 12:30 and I didn’t stop until 4:30. This game is just that amazing. And it’s not even just creating the levels, the built in levels are absolutely incredible.

Anyway, I’m not going to post EVERY level I make, I’m just really excited about this game right now.

Again, if the video isn’t up, it’ll be up shortly.

LBP – My First Level

October 25, 2008

Well, not surprisingly, the game is amazing. I spent hours making my first level, and decided to take a video of it to show you. It’s super low quality and ugly, but you can at least see what’s going on.

The video will be up soon, if it’s not already up. Youtube just has to process it.

LBP Preorders Out Today

October 25, 2008

I’ve actually been doing a lot of stuff recently. I’ve been hanging out with the other people at the Quality Inn, going places, going to class, doing homework, and all that other good stuff. I’ve actually not had much time for video games or anything like that, except Castlevania, but that ends today.

Gamestop called me this morning at 10 to tell me that the Little Big Planet preorders were in stock! I contemplated waiting for the only guy in the Quality Inn to wake up so I could bum a ride off of him, but I couldn’t wait. I jumped on my bike and rode 4 miles to Gamestop and picked up my copy. They also tried to rip me off by giving me $8.50 for a brand new copy of Metroid Prime 3, but I said “heck no” to that.

Well, I’m off to play!

Simply Spy

October 23, 2008

So I finally sat down and recorded two games of me playing Spy. I boast my ability quite a bit and it’s about time I got to making a video. There is some junk missing from the matches that were fantastic, that’s because I stopped recording at some points because I was confident I wasn’t going to keep being awesome.

The link to the video after the break.

Dead Space is Amazing

October 21, 2008

In 1999, a game called System Shock 2 was released for the PC. The game takes place in a spaceship where some type of genetic disorder (probably an understatement) that turns the humans into mutants. You play as a lone soldier, going through the ship trying to figure out what’s going on. The game is generally regarded as one of the scariest games of all time due to the constant threat of mutants, lack of ammunition, and it’s excellent use of sound.

So what’s that have to do with Dead Space? It feels almost like a sequel to that game.

Mother 3 Handbook Preorders

October 17, 2008

If the release of the Mother 3 Fan Translation wasn’t enough for you, the guys at Starmen.net have been hard at work doing the awesome looking Mother 3 Handbook. They kept to the style of the Earthbound Player’s Guide and made it like a guidebook for all the locales in the world of Mother 3. The book will ship sometime around January, but preorders start now!

Mother 3 Fan Translation is Finished!

October 17, 2008

Well, good news for Earthbound fans. Today marks the official release of the unofficial Mother 3 translation. Even if you haven’t played Earthbound or the original (sometimes dubbed Earthbound Zero), I recommend you give this game a chance. If it’s anything like the others, it could be contender for game of the year, easily.

Here you can find the patch and all readmes and everything (except the rom and emulator).

So, download and enjoy!
